A MATCH MADE IN COLOR HEAVEN

Need a perfect shade of paper to match a corporate logo (that just happens to be the color of his chocolate Lab’s eyes)? Dream of a duplex sheet combining two different colors from the swatchbook? Think these custom options are out of your reach? Not any more.

While Mohawk has always had custom color capability, improvements in our color system at the Beckett Mill in Hamilton, Ohio now make it possible to change color much more quickly on the machine. This means shorter runs of color –as little as 5000 lbs.– are much more efficient so they’re more affordable for you – making custom colors more attainable than ever before. Read more >

wineTHE ART OF THE LABEL

When I became an antique and collectibles hunter, one of my first collections was paper labels, particularly those from fruit crates. The colors were rich and deeply saturated. The subject matter transcended the mere orange or apple to include exotic animals, landscapes and beautiful women. AND THE 2009 MOHAWK i-TONIES GO TO …

On January 14, Chris Harrold hosted the second Mohawk i-Tonie Awards judging at the Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, New York. With last year’s entries in mind, we knew we’d once again see the best digitally produced work in the country. And you did not disappoint. The entries delighted and amazed us.

The four original judges – Frank Romano, professor emeritus from RIT; Todd Kalagher, president of Finlay Printing; Bill Garno, director of RIT’s Printing Applications Laboratory; and Brett Traylor, partner of Thinkso Design in New York City – reconvened to pick the four 2009 winners. (One tough job given the quality of the work received.) Read more >
