National Envelope and Economy Paper Company introduces industry-first tree-free envelopes

December 7, 2011

In early December, National Envelope announced a new envelope product, called TreeFrog by National.  National has entered into an exclusive partnership with TreeZero® to produce envelopes made entirely with “tree-free” paper.  National Envelope will be the first company in the industry to make envelopes with TreeZero® paper. Ken Winterhalter, National Envelope president and CEO, said, “As an industry leader in environmentally responsible products, National Envelope is pleased to add ‘TreeFrog by National’ to its full line of eco-friendly, sustainable envelope options.”  Cherie Brinkerhoff, National’s VP of Sales Operations & Marketing, explains:

Q. Tree-free envelopes?  What are they made of?

A. The paper, called TreeFrog paper, is made by TreeZero®.  It’s made from a 100% sugar cane by-product called bagasse.  The paper used for these environmentally friendly and sustainable envelopes has absolutely no wood or wood fibers used in the manufacturing process.

Q. But isn’t the process of harvesting the sugar cane detrimental to the environment?

A. The great news is that no sugar cane is harvested specifically to produce this paper.  The by-product is diverted from land filling or burning, making it a truly eco-friendly option.  Sugar cane can be harvested twice a year, making it a renewable paper source.

Q. Can your TreeFrog by National envelopes be recycled?

A. Absolutely.  There’s no special handling required.

Q. I’ve never heard of TreeFrog paper before.  Is anyone else using this?

A. TreeFrog copy paper by TreeZero is currently being sold to universities and other organizations, as well as through selected office products locations.

Q. Where can I get more information?

A. You can visit our website at www.nationalenvelope.com.
